Charcoal Steak House Celebrates 70 Years of Serving Waterloo Region
Iconic restaurant marks seven decades of hospitality, community connections and memorable moments Charcoal Steak House is celebrating 70 years of serving the Waterloo Region, marking a milestone that reflects generations of guests, memorable celebrations and a lasting commitment to hospitality. Since opening its doors in 1956, Charcoal Steak House has welcomed guests through countless milestones – from first dates and family dinners to weddings, anniversaries, business gatherings and holiday celebrations. Over seven decades, the restaurant has become a familiar part of the community’s dining landscape, creating experiences that have been passed down through generations. “Reaching 70 years is an incredible achievement and a moment to reflect on the people who have been part of our story,” says Jody Palubiski, CEO and Managing Partner of the Charcoal Group of Restaurants, the parent company that owns and operates Charcoal Steak House. “We are grateful for the generations of guests who have trusted us with their special occasions, the team members who have brought our hospitality to life and the community partners who have supported us along the way.” The restaurant’s story began when Del and Ortha Wideman purchased the Charcoal Pit and transformed it into Charcoal Steak House, building a foundation rooted in quality food, genuine hospitality and strong relationships. In 1976, the restaurant moved to its current King Street East location, where it continued to grow while maintaining the traditions that helped establish it as a Waterloo Region landmark. As the hospitality industry has evolved, Charcoal Steak House has continued to adapt to changing guest expectations while preserving the classic dining experience that has made it a destination for generations. Today, the restaurant continues to expand its offerings through special events, wine dinners, corporate gatherings and catering services that bring the Charcoal experience beyond the dining room. “While much has changed in the restaurant industry over the past 70 years, our commitment to bringing people together through exceptional food and hospitality remains the same,” says Mr. Palubiski. “This milestone is a celebration of our history, our community and our future ahead.” To commemorate the anniversary, Charcoal Steak House will host a series of celebrations, including ‘1956 Feature Week’ from August 11-14, featuring throwback-inspired menu offerings, followed by a 70th Anniversary Celebration on August 15, in support of Waterloo Regional Health Network @ Queen’s Boulevard Cardiac Care. The 70th Anniversary Celebration will include culinary offerings, signature beverages, entertainment and opportunities for guests, friends and community members to celebrate seven decades of Charcoal Steak House. “Seventy years would not have been possible without the incredible support of our guests, employees, suppliers and community,” says Mr. Palubiski. “We look forward to continuing to create meaningful experiences and welcoming guests for generations to come.” For more information or tickets to the anniversary events, visit charcoalsteakhouse.ca.
